In Memoriam: Rev. Canon Dr. Simon Omeke
By:
- Felix Orji
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.
Psalm 116:15
Dear Friends,
Earlier today, Tuesday June 23, 2026, the Rev. Canon Dr Simon Omeke passed from this earthy life into the presence of our Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Felicia Omeke.
We give thanks to God for the life of Canon Omeke- his commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel, his love for people especially the poor, his loyalty to the Diocese, and his affection for his wife of 53 years. He was a man who recognized the truth and stood by it no matter the cost to him. Canon Omeke was totally committed to the “old time religion” of holiness and purity of life – the faith entrusted to the saints. He was an amiable and godly gentleman whose commitment to fulfilling his priestly ministry was extraordinary. Rest on, gallant soldier of Christ. Your labour of love is not in vain and shall never be forgotten.
While we grieve his death, we are reminded that our brother is at rest in the presence of God because of the redeeming death and victorious resurrection of Christ our Savior. And for this we are immensely grateful to the Lord.
On behalf of our Diocese, I extend our sincere condolences to his beloved wife, family, friends, Reconciliation Anglican Church in Houston, associates, and all who were blessed by his life and ministry. May God grant us all the comfort of the Holy Spirit during this time of bereavement, confident in the promise of eternal life for all who trust in Jesus Christ.
Please pray for his wife and family and support them financially as you are able.
May the Almighty God comfort and strengthen everyone he has left behind, and grant them the fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.
More communication will follow in due time.
Peace be with you.
In Christ,
The Rt Rev’d Dr Felix Orji, OSB.
